It’s that time of year again! No, not the holidays…it’s time to get hyped for one of the biggest tech shows of the year. The Consumer Electronic Show (CES) takes place in Las Vegas, NV, each year in January, and draws an enormous crowd – along with some of the biggest brands in the world. This show sets the tone for the entire year in terms of tech trends. The technology, devices, appliances, and innovation that is showcased at this show every year is truly the newest, latest, and greatest. Big companies and brands spend an entire year preparing for this show, and they go all out with their displays and booths. Smaller companies that are hoping to break into the technology industry fight and claw to get a spot on the CES vendor list, or to get their executives lined up for speaking opportunities.
Every year, CES gets tons of press coverage – even well before the event. At a time when the holidays are ruling the airwaves, CES still finds a way to sneak into popular culture. The big reveals that happen at CES will shape the things that will fill your holiday wish and shopping lists at the end of 2017. If you haven’t yet been paying attention to the teasers and rumors, I’ve rounded them up for you here so you know what to expect at CES 2017, even if you aren’t attending.
- TV, Glorious TV: The picture, the sound, the apps – all of these things need to be addressed at CES, and I’d be really surprised if they aren’t. Expect to hear from LG, Dolby, Sony, and Panasonic.
- Next Gen 4K: In 2016, 4K televisions premiered at CES and people lost their minds. In 2017, we’ll see the next generation of 4K. Expect to see 4K debut for monitors and smartphones, and just hope that your sad human eyes are even able to take in all the glory.
- Miles of Smart Cars: Self-driving cars? We could see these at CES 2017. There will also be a major presence from Faraday Future, BMW, and Hyundai. We’re talking self-driving cars, holograms displays, gesture controls, and, perhaps, a supercar.
- Virtual Reality Content: By January 2017, consumers around the world will have woken upon Christmas to their very own virtual reality (VR) headsets, but they might be disappointed with the VR content that is available. CES should be deeply immersed in VR, and we will hopefully see some enhanced content revealed. Watch for news from HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, and Microsoft.
These big categories won’t own CES 2017, though. You can also expect to hear big things about the future of mobile, wearables, and, of course, drones. There are also always some off-beat products revealed at CES, including smart fashion. These types of clothes were very present at the 2016 event, and everything from pockets that clean your smartphone screen to h art and breathing rate tracking bras were featured.
What are you hoping to see debut at CES 2017?
